What is the rental cost?

There is a range of properties of different sizes in three locations around the main campus. Monthly rents at University street/Fitzwilliam Street and Riddel Hall range from:
1 bedroom £500-
2 bedroom £550
3 bedroom £650

Monthly rents at Stratfield House valid to July 2010 range from:
1 bedroom £750
2 bedroom £850

Do I have to pay a deposit?
Yes. A deposit equal to 1 month’s rent is payable on signing a tenancy agreement. This is payable immediately and can be made in cash, cheque or credit card.

How long can I stay in staff accommodation?
The maximum stay permitted is 12 months.

Can I have phone and internet access?
There are a limited number of apartments with telephone points; if a point is available it is your responsibility to arrange a connection; if no point is present then you are permitted to install a line at your expense. Portable wireless internet is also an option you may consider.

Is there a television provided?
Stratfield House – Yes, but you will require to purchase a TV licence.
All other properties – No. If you do install your own TV you will also need to purchase a TV licence.

Can I have cable or satellite television?
Accessing a telephone line, the internet or television via cable connection is permissible however please contact us before signing any supplier’s agreement.
It is not possible to erect a satellite dish on our properties.

Do I need to buy a television licence?
By law in the UK you are required to obtain a television licence if you wish to have a television.  If you are residing in Stratfield House where a TV is provided then you do need to purchase a licence.

Do I pay electricity?
All short term contracts, i.e. maximum 3 months will not pay electricity separately – it is included in the short term rental charge. 
Staff who are staying long term, between 3 months and 12 months will be required to set up an account with the local electricity provider, Northern Ireland Electricity, www.nie.co.uk and will be invoiced directly by them. Details on how to do this are available on arrival. Your apartment may have a 'pay as you go' meter ans the procedure to top up will be explained on arrival.

Can I bring a pet with me?
We do not allow pets in our accommodation.

How do I collect my keys?
You can collect your keys from the Accommodation Reception at Elms Village. Reception is open 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

When do I sign the Tenancy Agreement?
We ask that you sign your tenancy agreement when you come to the Accommodation Reception to collect keys. If required, we can send you a copy of the tenancy agreement for you to read before you arrive which may save time when you arrive at Reception.

How do I pay my rent?
Rent can only be paid in the following manner:

  1. If staying for more than 3 months payment is taken directly from your salary or stipend at source at the end of each month for the following month's rent. A form to arrange this will be available when you check-in. A deposit is necessary and the first 2 payments will be made in person until the salary deduction system is active.
  2. If staying for 3 months or less then full payment is required on arrival.

Is bed linen provided?
Linen, towels and welcome food packs are available if required at an additional cost; you will be advised of charge details when you contact us to discuss your requirements. A requirement for packs must be highlighted on your application form for them to be available on arrival.

Is a cleaning service available?
We provide a cleaning service of all communal areas on a weekly basis however it is the tenant’s responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of their apartment during their stay.
